Grand Egyptian Museum: doors to the repository of antiquities are open

It has finally happened! We are pleased to announce that on November 1, the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) took place in Giza, becoming the full-fledged successor to the renowned Egyptian National Museum located in central Cairo on Tahrir Square.

Today, November 4, GEM has opened its doors to travelers from all corners of the world who come to the land of sphinxes, pyramids and stunning ancient monuments.

Who were the guests at the Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening ceremony? What ticket prices have been announced for those wishing to visit this new and undoubtedly iconic attraction?

We have already written about the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, more precisely, about why tourism enthusiasts absolutely cannot miss this landmark event, the location of the new attraction, the fate of the old Cairo museum and much more. We continue the topic.

On November 1, the official launch of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located in Giza next to the world-famous Great Pyramids, took place. The opening ceremony was truly grand. Seventy-nine official delegations were invited to the festivities, 39 of which were headed by kings, princes, presidents or heads of government.

Members of royal families and monarchs from Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Luxembourg, Monaco, Japan, and Thailand were present. Presidents of Djibouti, Somalia, Portugal, Armenia, Germany, Croatia, Cyprus, Albania, Bulgaria, Colombia, Equatorial Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, and Eritrea. Prime ministers of Greece, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, and Uganda. High-level ministerial and parliamentary delegations from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Qatar, Morocco, Tunisia, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Austria, the United Kingdom, France, the Vatican, Malta, Romania, Russia, Ireland, Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Singapore, India, Kyrgyzstan, China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Zambia, Angola, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, South Africa, Gabon, Chad, Kenya, Rwanda, Togo, Brazil, Canada and the United States.

Leaders of international organizations also arrived, such as the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the African Union Commission, the United Nations and this is not the full list.

This impressive roster of participants at the Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening ceremony is a testament to the support and development of Egypt’s tourism sector in various parts of the world. It was incredibly gratifying for us to see in this brilliant list the names of heads of state from countries whose travelers traditionally become guests of the Carthage Group in Egypt. For example, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev.

However, the official ceremonies have come to an end and today, November 4, GEM has opened its doors to all who wish to visit. Visitors to the Grand Egyptian Museum now have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the deep past of human civilization, exploring a collection of amazing exhibits. In particular, ones like the mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, which was previously housed in the old Cairo museum.

This artifact, adorned with semi-precious stones and made of pure gold, weighs about 11 kilograms and is one of the most valuable archaeological finds in the world. The mask was discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter in Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of Kings in Luxor.

The prices for visiting the new museum cannot be called budget-friendly, but the content of its exhibits is so fascinating that these figures are entirely justified. For adult tourists, the ticket price is 1450 EGP (≈ 30.70 USD), and for students and children in the same category — 730 EGP (≈ 15.46 USD).

It’s worth noting that traveling to the Grand Egyptian Museum not independently, but using the services of the host company’s staff, can save money. Such offers can be advantageous due to the cost of transfer to GEM, and the choice becomes even more obvious when considering the comfort and convenience of these solutions.
